Clyde Park Single Block C Chardonnay 2023 750mL
$94.99 – $475.99
Description
Clyde Park vineyard was established in 1979 with small plantings of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Further plantings have expanded to include Shiraz, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris. The site consists of undulating north easterly slopes. The soil varies from silt/clay to sandy loam with basalt over a limestone base. Plantings on our north easterly slope provide exposure to sunlight, whilst the river flat area offers warmth and wind protection. Viticulturally the site produces premium fruit of low yields providing balanced wines of great purity, complexity and finesse.
Block C was planted by the Farr’s & the Weir families in 1979 to the P58 clone on its own roots. This is the oldest block on the property and continually produces fruit with depth and purity. Gently whole bunch pressed with the initial high solids nutrient rich juice taken directly from the press tray into French oak for natural fermentation. The balance of the juice is cold settled before putting to oak, with battonage to create layered complexity.
Light straw in colour, the wines aroma is mesmerizingly layered with green apples, ocean spray and complex sulphides providing matchstick complexity. A full-bodied core of primary fruit envelops the palate with structural chalky fine tannins adding a saline driven backbone. Fine, long and intense, this wine embodies power and restraint.
